Let’s Make Harmony
Gilbert and Sullivan are well
known by all lovers of music. Together they produced 14 operas between 1871
and1896; Gilbert’s words allied to Sullivan’s music produced
magical experiences in music. With every story there is usually some dark
mystery. This story’s dark mystery is that neither man liked each other. In
fact they detested each other. The story goes that Sullivan bought new carpet
for the theater and when Gilbert saw the bill he got very angry. From this
point on neither man could stand to talk to or be near the other one.
When Gilbert wrote the words for the
operas he would mail them to Sullivan and when Sullivan wrote the music he
would mail it to Gilbert. There came a time in their lives when they both had
to appear on stage together. Mr. Sullivan placed himself on one end of the
stage and Mr. Gilbert on the other. Both men would face in different
directions so as not to see one another when they took a bow. Together they
made
beautiful music but had no harmony.
Lent is here. Lent is the Anglo-Saxon word
for “Spring Season.” In the earliest
Christian form Lent was a very intense period of prayer and fasting in
preparation of baptism at Easter. This
Lenten season our church has many challenges to overcome. During this time of
Lent as a church family let us practice yieldedness
and commitment to prayer. Psalms 37:5-6
tells us to “Commit your way to the Lord: trust in him and he will do
this: He will make your righteousness
shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun”.
As the body of Christ let’s make beautiful
music and lasting harmony as a Christ-Centered People.
The prayer team developed a prayer journal
and everyone should have received a copy and faithfully been using it
daily. If you did not receive a prayer
journal there should be copies around the church and if you do not see them
please either contact the Prayer Team (names posted on the website, bulletin
boards and pg 9 of this newsletter edition) or contact Anita, in the church
office.
Ephesians 6:18 tells us “And pray in the
Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep
on praying for all the saints”. And let
us make peaceful harmony as we worship during Lent and for the rest of our
lives.
God said “Let my children come” -
Peace in Christ!
